the grid, and what runs out

How presets are built, and why the CPU meter is something you manage rather than a cap you hit.

the one thing

Replace duplicate blocks with channels. Four channels in one block cost far less than four blocks. Most preset optimization on this platform comes down to that.

presets are blocks on a grid

A preset is built by dropping blocks into slots on a 14 by 6 grid, every slot and cable stereo, and connecting them with cables. You never build separate left and right paths—the stereo is handled for you.

This device allows two amp and cab pairs per preset.

shunts

An empty slot does not pass signal on its own. Where you need to bridge a gap, you insert a shunt—an empty block whose only job is to pass audio through. A chain that looks connected but is silent is usually missing one.

the CPU sets the limit

Fractal publish a Preset CPU Limits chapter. Line 6 cap particular block types. Fractal let you build what fits and stop you when the processor is full, so watch the meter.

The biggest single saving is channels. If you duplicate a block to get two settings, you pay twice. Channels give you the second setting for far less.
