14 of the 30 problems below are not faults. The modeler does that on purpose, and they are marked by design.
The modeler is in Preset mode, not Stomp mode . Fix: Press FS6, marked PRESET / STOMP.
Helix Cheat Sheet (Rev D)A foot is resting on a capacitive footswitch . Fix: Touching a switch selects its block on screen without changing the sound, so you can edit with your feet. Move your foot off.
Helix Cheat Sheet (Rev D)The output block is routed somewhere you are not listening to . Fix: Select the Output block at the end of the path and check where it is sending. A preset built for USB or for Path 2 will be silent at the jacks.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualPreset Spillover is on and the preset uses Path 2 . Fix: Spillover removes Path 2 and routes nothing to it. If your Output blocks point at Path 2, you get silence. Turn spillover off, or re-point the outputs.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualYou are using the RIGHT output on its own . Fix: Both output pairs are stereo, and the LEFT/MONO jack is the one that sums to mono. Move the cable.
Helix Cheat Sheet (Rev D)A cab block is running into a real guitar cab . Fix: Two speaker simulations are stacked. Bypass the Cab block, or use an Amp model instead of Amp+Cab.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualA ground loop between your rig and the PA . Fix: Press the GND/LIFT switch on the rear panel, beside the XLR outputs. It is a physical switch, not a menu item.
Helix Cheat Sheet (Rev D)Usually a second amp, or a poly effect.
You have hit a hard cap, not the DSP ceiling . Fix: Four amps per preset, two per path. One looper per preset. One poly effect per path. These are fixed limits, however much DSP is free.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualYou are out of DSP . Fix: Make a stereo block mono, swap a Legacy cab for the newer IR-based one, or replace two amp blocks with one amp into a Dual cab. Each frees real space.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualBypassed blocks still use DSP . Fix: Bypassing does not free DSP. Delete what you are not using.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualThat is what a preset change does . Fix: Every block unloads and reloads. Build the change as a snapshot inside one preset, or turn on Preset Spillover (hold ACTION and press HOME) and lose Path 2.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualThe preset was never saved . Fix: An “E” beside the preset name means edited and unsaved. Press SAVE twice. Changing preset with the E showing discards everything.
Helix Cheat Sheet (Rev D)Expression assignments are stored per preset . Fix: There is no global assignment. Build the pedal into a template preset and copy that instead of assigning it on each one.
Helix Cheat Sheet (Rev D)It is on another page . Fix: Six knobs cannot show everything. Press ◀ PAGE ▶. The scrollbar under the parameter row shows how many pages the block has.
Helix Cheat Sheet (Rev D)Snapshot Edits is set to Discard . Fix: Global Settings > Preferences > Snapshot Edits sets this. Recall (the default) keeps your changes as you left them. Discard returns the snapshot to its last-saved state. Discard suits playing live and loses edits while you are building. Hold BYPASS and press SAVE to flip it at any time. The camera icon on the Home screen is gray for Recall and red for Discard.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualNothing has been changed in it yet . Fix: An unedited snapshot carries the state you arrived with. It becomes its own sound the moment you change something in it. Nothing is broken.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualIt recalls whichever snapshot was active when the preset was saved . Fix: Saving a preset stores all of its snapshots and remembers which one you were on. If a song should always start on the intro sound, select that snapshot and then save. The choice is made at save time, not at load time.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualSnapshot Mode Switches is set to Auto Return . Fix: Set Global Settings > Footswitches > Snapshot Mode Switches to Manual Return and it stays in snapshot mode until you press CANCEL. Auto Return suits occasional snapshot use. Manual Return suits a set played on snapshots.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualThis is a setting inside the block. Tails cutting off at a preset change is a different problem.
That block's Trails setting is Off . Fix: Trails Off mutes repeats and decays the moment the block is bypassed. Trails On lets them ring out, through a bypass and through a snapshot change. It is set per block, so check every delay and reverb.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualThe delay is synced to tempo, and the new preset has a different one . Fix: A tempo-synced delay re-syncs its trails to the incoming preset's BPM, so the tail still ringing changes speed. To hold the speed across a change, set that delay in milliseconds instead of a note value.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualRead this before you plug in.
No—Line 6 flag this in capitals, twice . Fix: Never connect these XLR outputs to a device whose XLR inputs have 48V phantom power enabled. On a desk, that means switching phantom off for those channels before you plug in, not after.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualOnly one digital output can be active at a time . Fix: S/PDIF and AES/EBU are a choice, not a pair. Pick one in Global Settings > Ins/Outs. Connecting an L6 LINK device, such as a Powercab, disables the S/PDIF output automatically.
Helix 3.80 Owner's ManualIt is routed somewhere other than where you are listening . Fix: Global Settings > Ins/Outs page 3, Volume Knob Controls, sets which outputs the knob touches. Set to Digital it controls nothing at all and both output pairs sit at unity. That is deliberate, for rigs where front of house sets the level.
