What should input gain actually be set to?
resolvedLeave it at 0 dB.
The community wiki's gain staging page, on the grounds that the modeler is designed to take a hard-strummed humbucker there without clipping.
Set it just below clipping.
Widespread forum advice, and the wiki's own input-level page, which describes playing harder than usual and watching the meter “tickle the red”.
Both are right, in order: 0 dB is the default and “tickle the red” is the check. 0 dB is the design target and is correct for most guitars. “Tickle the red” tells you whether that holds for yours, and it is the adjustment to make if it doesn't.
Quad Cortex Wiki: Gain Staging · Quad Cortex Wiki: Setting the Input LevelWhy does the modeler refuse blocks when the CPU meter is a third full?
openThe preset is too complex; simplify it.
The intuitive reading of the CPU meter, and the usual first answer on forums.
The limit is per path, not global—move the block, don't delete it.
Forum owners comparing notes on Neural's own board, who report one reverb per row pair with spring reverbs excepted.
The per-path explanation is the only one that fits refusals at low CPU, and owners report it consistently. It is community-sourced. Neural's manual documents the DSP behavior of bypassed blocks and the automatic disabling of Global EQ, but does not state the per-path reverb rule. It is marked community everywhere it appears.
Forum: the limit of gears · Quad Cortex User Manual 4.0.0Which revision of the Uberschall is “Bogna Uber”?
resolvedThe EL34 revision.
The community wiki's description of the amp.
6L6 power tubes.
The spec box further down that same wiki page, contradicting its own prose.
Neither, and the manual settles it. Neural's own Virtual Device List names it Bogner Uberschall Rev. Blue, with Clean and Lead variants. We previously published this as unverified, with no tube type. The official device list makes that caution unnecessary. Here the community source was the weaker one.
Quad Cortex User Manual 4.0.0 · Quad Cortex Wiki: Virtual Device ListHow many footswitches does the Quad Cortex have?
resolvedEight.
Almost every casual description, counting only the lettered A–H switches.
Eleven.
Neural's own product copy (“11 stainless steel stomp and rotary actuators”) and the modeler itself.
Eleven: A–H, plus BANK UP, BANK DOWN and TEMPO. BANK DOWN and TEMPO end the two main rows. BANK UP sits on its own, raised beside the screen.
