Cortex Control
a free desktop editor the Nano Cortex does not have
The Nano is driven from a phone. The Quad Cortex also gets a desktop editor, free for macOS and Windows.
How to get hereFree for macOS and Windows, connected over USB Type B. On Windows you also need Neural's USB Audio Driver installed separately.
1. the whole library, on a real screen
Presets, captures, IRs and backups in one sidebar. Manage 3,072 presets in Cortex Control instead of on a 7-inch touchscreen.
2. select many, act once
Copy, like, upload, download and delete in bulk. On the modeler these are one-at-a-time operations.
3. drag IRs straight in
Drop WAVs onto the window and they're available on the modeler or in Cortex Cloud. They're still converted to 48 kHz and 1,024 samples on the way in, whatever you feed them.
4. local backups
Create, rename, update and recall backups on your own computer. Do it before you need it: Recovery Mode's Factory Reset wipes everything, and it is one footswitch combo away.
- Bulk preset operations
Copy, like, upload, download and delete many presets at once, instead of one at a time on the screen.
Cortex Control (Quad Cortex only)- Local backups
Create and manage backups on your own computer, with rename, update, delete and recall. Back up all 3,072 presets this way.
Cortex Control (Quad Cortex only)- Drag-and-drop IR import
Drop WAVs in and they become available on the modeler or in your Cortex Cloud account. They are still converted to 48 kHz and 1,024 samples on the way in.

plugins
whether your plugin runs depends on three things
The Quad Cortex runs Neural DSP plugins on the hardware. The Nano Cortex does not. Owning the plugin is not enough on its own: the license type matters too.
- perpetual licenses only
Subscription and trial licenses do not transfer to the hardware. If you rent the plugin, you cannot run it on the modeler.
Quad Cortex product page · Quad Cortex Wiki: FAQ- up to three Quad Cortex modelers per license
Enough for a main modeler, a backup and a rehearsal-room spare.
Quad Cortex product page- internet once, then offline forever
The modeler needs a connection to verify the license. After that it runs offline indefinitely—you are not tied to venue Wi-Fi.
Quad Cortex product page- live since 31 July 2024
Plini X and Gojira X came first. The rest arrive on Neural's published PCOM schedule.

Wi-Fi
Cortex Cloud is only as good as the signal
Set each of these. The signal threshold matters most: below it, connections fail outright.
- Signal must reach −60 dBm or better. Below that, connections fail outright.
- Run 2.4 GHz, or a mixed 2.4/5 GHz network.
- Avoid special characters in the network name.
- Give the modeler a static IP address.
- Prioritize the modeler's traffic in your router's QoS settings.
- On a mixed-band router, split the bands into separate SSIDs.
- Tethering to a phone? Turn on “Maximize Compatibility”.
