The Ampeg SVT III was an earlier hybrid bass amplifier head preceding the SVT-3 Pro, using a tube preamp section mated to a solid-state power amplifier for approximately 220 watts of output. Introduced in the late 1980s, the SVT III offered tube warmth and the classic SVT voicing in a lighter and more affordable package than the all-tube SVT-2 Pro. It represented an important step in Ampeg's evolution toward making the SVT's tonal character accessible to a wider range of working bassists.
