The Ampeg VT-40 preamplifier circuit was part of the VT-40 combo amplifier, a mid-power all-tube guitar combo using the V-series preamp topology in a lower-wattage 40-watt configuration. The VT-40 preamp used 12AX7 tubes to provide clean and driven tones with Ampeg's characteristic American midrange voicing, feeding the signal to a pair of 6L6GC output tubes in the combo's power section. The VT-40 was a smaller-venue alternative to the 100-watt VT-22 while sharing much of its circuit DNA.
