The Vortex is a late-1990s Hughes & Kettner solid-state head rated at 80 watts into 4 ohms, sold with a matching 4×12 cabinet. Its op-amp preamp switches between a Clean channel with its own volume and a Lead channel with gain, a voicing control and its own master. The channels share bass, middle and treble, with reverb, an effects loop and a headphone output, ahead of a discrete transistor power amp.
