The Marshall 2204 Master Volume 50W is the 50-watt companion to the 2203, sharing the same master volume innovation but with a two-EL34 power stage that produces a slightly looser, more harmonically saturated character when pushed. Many players prefer the 2204 to the 2203 for its slightly earlier power-amp breakup and the dynamic sag of its smaller power transformer. It became the template for the JCM800 2204 that followed and remains a benchmark of single-channel British high-gain tone in a more stage-friendly package.
